Asia Cup Winners List Timeline
The first Asia Cup was held in the United Arab Emirates in 1984 after Asian Cricket Council was established in the previous year. Held in a round-robin style, the tournament featured India, Sri Lanka, and Pakistan. India was the first country to be added to the Asia Cup Winners List. Sri Lanka came in second in this tournament and Pakistan came last. In 1986, the hosts won the second edition held in Sri Lanka. In 1988, the tournament was held in Bangladesh, and India won their second championship, defeating Sri Lanka in the final.
India hosted the Asia Cup for the first time in 1990-91, and they also won it with a 7-wicket triumph over Sri Lanka in the final. The next event was held in the United Arab Emirates four years later, in 1995. In the final, India defeated Sri Lanka by eight wickets. In the subsequent three editions, Sri Lanka won the trophy three times, in 1997, 2000, 2004, and 2008, while Pakistan won once.
India won by 81 runs against Sri Lanka in 2010. Bangladesh and Pakistan met in the final of the 2012 tournament, with Pakistan winning by two runs in a dramatic encounter. After defeating Pakistan by five wickets, Sri Lanka won their fifth title in 2014. In 2016, the Asia Cup was played in T20I format, and India won. They successfully defended their title in the 2018 edition. In 2022, Sri Lanka was added to the Asia Cup Winners List.
